Studio Information

Since opening her studio in 1994 Kathy has enjoyed her many years as a piano instructor and mentor. She works with students of all ages and abilities, from the newest wide-eyed beginner to the adult returning to piano after a hiatus.

All of Kathy’s students receive training in reading music fluently, playing by ear, theory, standard classical repertoire, jazz and improvisation, and pop and folk music. Intermediate and advanced students will also learn to read from lead sheets and create their own arrangements. They are encouraged to challenge their abilities, as each pianist studies music tailored to their individual tastes and interests. Playing the piano can be great fun, but also involves work. Both work and play happens in every lesson. A well-rounded musical education helps students define for themselves what music means to them.

Two studio recitals are presented each year where students can work on their performance skills and showcase their progress. Recitals can feature solos, duets, trios and vocal/piano pieces of all genres, often featuring the students compositions. The goal for all students is that music will be a healthy, wonderful way to express themselves for the rest of their lives.
